Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Suffolk County Executive's Asian American Advisory Board.
The Asian American Advisory Board was formed by County Executive Steve Levy in December 2005. Under the Suffolk County Executive and Office of Minority Affairs, the Board’s function is to improve cultural understanding between these ethnic communities, the County government, and our community as a whole. The Boards also function to promote minority business development, access to services, and encourage civic participation at all levels by all members of the community.
The US Census Bureau lists over twenty-five Asian and Pacific Islander groups. Some of the largest groups are: Vietnamese, Chinese, Filipinos, Indian, Pakistani, Korean, Japanese, Cambodian, Laotian, Indonesian, Thai, Burmese, Malaysian, Taiwanese, Sri Lanka, Bangladeshi, and a variety of Pacific Islanders from the Hawaiian Islands.
The committed Board members consist of professionals from various backgrounds. They are leaders from different ethnic communities. Over the past few years, the Board has sponsored a variety of programs (such as cultural, educational, economic, and health fairs, etc) to fulfill its missions.
The Board is a bridge between County government and the Asian American communities. If you have any concerns that needed to be brought to the attention of the County, please feel free to contact any of our Board members.
This website will help the Asian American community in Suffolk County to find various department services offered through offices of Suffolk County. We will also post our sponsored programs and activities. We look forward to seeing you in our future events.
Very truly yours,
Ramon L. Villongco, M.B.A.
